Our Wines

In 2011, all of our wines were derived from single-vineyard sources, showcasing the terroir of each of these sites.

To start, we sought grapes—and, more importantly, people—to share a special partnership. These amazing growers are truly the cornerstone of J. Stephen, for without their care and attention, the wines would not be nearly as outstanding!

2011 Ribolla Gialla

2011 Ribolla Gialla

A bit funky and certainly outside of the typical California canon, this wine is nothing short of unusual. The nose leads with a note of cantaloupe and jasmine and just a hint of reduction. On the palate, this Ribolla is driven by its texture, leading with flavors of citrus, rounding out in the midpalate and finishing with crisp acidity and a touch of well structured tannin. Full and lush to the mouth, this wine is complex at a subdued and classic 12.4% alcohol!

2011 Unoaked Chardonnay

2011 Unoaked Chardonnay

With a nod to the great wines of Chablis, this wine attempts to be more restrained with just a bit of old world character. At first glance, the nose leads with a hint of bread dough, followed by scents of meyer lemon and citrus blossom. On the palate, citrus flavors predominate with a creamy texture and a long finish. Lively acidity on the finish makes this wine extremely food friendly. This unoaked Chardonnay was crafted to showcase the true character of Russian River Valley- elegance, structure and finesse.

2011 Zinfandel Rose

2011 Zinfandel RosÉ

Our 2011 Zinfandel Rosé is crafted via the saignée method- in which we bleed a small portion of juice off our tank of Zinfandel. This is done in years of above average berry size in order to increase the ratio of skin to juice, providing greater extraction and flavor from our Zinfandel grapes.

Spring 2013 Release

2011 Pinot Noir

With Pinot Noir being our favorite varietal, we were extremely excited when we came across a grower willing to give us an audition with fruit from his vineyard, in the middle of the Russian River Valley no less!

2011 Zinfandel

Classic Zinfandel character from the Russian River Valley is the hallmark of this wine. The nose is one of strawberry and red raspberries with a characteristic spiciness. With no new oak, the palate is fresh and lively with great natural acidity and a full spectrum of red and black fruit flavors. Structure and finesse reminiscent of the old California style make this wine an excellent pair to full bodied dishes.
